You’ve heard of double denim, well for Fall 2012 Vivienne Westwood is all about rocking double tartan. A staple fabric for this British heritage brand, the tartans came in all shades and sizes, as tartan blazers were worn over mismatched tartan shirts and trousers; several suit options included both light and dark tartan within the same garment adding interesting contrast and putting a spin on the traditional suited and booted look.
Opening the show was very much an ‘air force’ look which included several ‘flight’ style jackets in leather and shearling as well as several tailored macs. Sharp suiting, a staple for Milan Fashion Week included a chocolate pinstripe suit, waistcoats, frock coats and dinner suits.
There was a distinctively youthful and sportswear vibe to the collection which came through in oversized, belted knits, teamed with harem cut sweat pants and zip through sports bomber jackets. Button through, denim jacket silhouettes gave a real retro seventies look to a collection already bursting with contrasting era and silhouette ideas.
A real contrasting collection that fused together Westwood’s aesthetic for innovative pattern cutting techniques, excellent design and strong tailoring.
