In light of this past weekend being Pride weekend, I think Donatella chose the perfect time slot to show Versace Spring 2013 menswear collection. Boys, get ready because come next season you’ll be showing skin, and a lot of it if Donatella has a say.
The collection was supposedly aiding in the relaunch of the house’s swim and underwear lines, so the boys were pulling pant-lessness to a whole new level; Gaga look out out! Speedos were the bottoms du jour. The collection had a gladiator vibe, maybe referring to Donatella’s message for the youth (who I believe will probably be the only ones fully embracing this collection) to be fighters and fight the fine fight for their rights (#pride?). While this collection was utter Versace flamboyant-ness at its best, amongst the gold, pinks, hyper florals, and metallic pastels. There was one saving grace to this collection; the suits. Ultimately I think the nod to “Italian craftsmanship” in the tailored suits in black, charcoal and grey added a slight sense of normalcy and order to the otherwise schizophrenic (one minute we’re a gladiator, the next we’re flower boys, and then we’re seapunks) collection, those and the amazing soundtrack. If one thing is for sure this collection definitely “Rocked” us.
