Arashi Yanagawa has officially made the leap from Japan to Paris with his Spring/Summer 2013 for John Lawrence Sullivan. Yanagawa avoided many of the pitfalls his contemporaries make when taking the journey by knowing when to move – Yanagawa has been cultivating his brand in Japan for quite some times now – and simply showing a great collection.
Yanagawa showed a collection of 80’s slanted looks peppered with Bauhaus allusions and video game references. Tight tailoring and innovative materials – he uses a “wet look” fabric on a pair of shorts and some fly-away coats and the outcome is down right applaudable – coupled with a palette based on the primary colors made for a high impact, and at times, wacky collection. His use of color and willingness to experiment, in the form of a waiter jacket hybrid this season, makes Arashi Yanagawa one to remember!
