According to Lego_Fulcrum, a leaker of unannounced Lego sets, Iron Man (and Downey Jr. by extension) will be included in Marvel’s What If…? Disney Plus series.

Taking to their Instagram page (opens in new tab) with their latest leak, Lego_Fulcrum shared an image of the as-yet-unannounced Lego set, revealing Tony Stark in a Sakaarian Iron Man suit.

What can we conclude from this leak? What If…? is coming soon. The episode appears to be about Iron Man – not Thor – being transported to the planet Sakaar.

As a reminder, Sakaar is the planet ruled by Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok. In this film, Thor is captured by the Grandmaster and ends up fighting the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) in order to entertain the citizens of Sakaar.

Spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.

How does this affect Downey Jr’s return as Iron Man? Based on comments made by Jeff Goldblum in a 2019 Buzzfeed interview, it would appear that Downey Jr. will return to lend his voice to Tony Stark’s animated form.

“I went to the Disney studios and I recorded the Grandmaster’s voice for an episode of a show that’s gonna be on Disney Plus that’s called What If…?,” said Goldblum at the time. “It’s an animated version of all the characters we know and love from Marvel and this episode included the Grandmaster and Iron Man, so Robert Downey [Jr.] will do a voice for that.”

There is no doubt that Downey Jr. will be returning as Iron Man/Tony Stark one final time, unless Marvel has had a significant change of heart.

One last time, why? Marvel fans will recall that Tony Stark died at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

When Iron Man wrestles the Infinity Stones from Thanos during the movie’s climactic battle, he uses them to wipe out Thanos and his invading army – but the sheer power of the stones is too much for him, and he eventually dies.

What If… ?by Marvel the series will star Jeffrey Wright (Batman, James Bond) as the Watcher, a cosmic being who watches over the Marvel Multiverse, though rarely interferes with the unfolding of events. Throughout the series, the Watcher will describe what would have transpired if major events in the MCU had been handled differently.

Currently, we know of an episode in which Peggy Carter takes the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, one in which T’Challa is kidnapped by Ravagers rather than Star-Lord, and one in which Bucky Barnes fights against Marvel superhero zombies.
